Privacy Policy

Effective July 29, 2026

The short version: we built KahaaniDB to know as little about you as possible. No third-party trackers, no ads, no selling data — ever. One optional cookie, only if you say yes. Your watchlist never leaves your browser.

What we collect without asking

To understand how many people visit and which films resonate, we count visits anonymously. Each visit is recorded against a temporary identifier derived mathematically from your IP address and browser type; the identifier changes every day and cannot be reversed back into your IP address, which we never store. Alongside it we record the page viewed, your country and region, how you arrived (the referring site), and your device type. None of this identifies you, and it works the same whether or not you accept the cookie below.

The one cookie

When you first visit, a one-sentence banner asks whether we may remember your browser. If you accept, we set a single cookie (kdb_vid) containing a random identifier — no name, no email, nothing about you — which lasts up to 13 months and helps us see returning visits. If you decline, no such cookie is set and you are still counted in the anonymous statistics above. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing cookies for this site. We keep a record of consent choices, as the law requires.

If you sign in

Signing in with Google is optional — browsing never requires it. If you do sign in (to rate films, for example), we store what Google shares with us: your name, email address and profile picture, plus the ratings you submit. We use these only to run your account and show your ratings back to you; they are never sold, never used for advertising, and never shown publicly without your action. Ask us to delete your account at any time and everything above goes with it.

Your watchlist

The watchlist is stored only in your own browser, on your own device. It is never sent to our servers and we cannot see its contents. When you save a film we record only the anonymous fact that someonesaved that film — a demand signal we share with the film’s makers in aggregate. Clearing your browser data clears your watchlist.

What we never do

No Google Analytics, no advertising pixels, no social-media trackers, no fingerprinting, no data brokers, no ads. This is a brand position as much as a technical one, and it is deliberate.

YouTube embeds

Films play through YouTube’s embedded player. When you play a film, YouTube may set its own cookies and collect data under Google’s privacy policy. Until you press play, no YouTube requests are made from our catalog pages beyond loading the film’s thumbnail.

Who processes data for us

KahaaniDB runs on a small set of infrastructure providers — hosting, database, search, and rate-limiting services — that process data on our behalf. Each receives only what is technically necessary to serve the site, under their own security commitments. Filmmakers who claim their pages, and our own team, additionally use login cookies strictly for those signed-in features.

Your rights

Under India’s DPDP Act, the GDPR, and similar laws, you can ask what data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — though for most visitors the honest answer is that we hold nothing that identifies you. Filmmakers can request corrections or removal of their catalog information at any time. Write to hello@kahaanidb.com and we will respond promptly.

Children

KahaaniDB is a film catalog for general audiences and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — we collect almost none from anyone.

Changes

If our practices change, this page will be updated first and the effective date revised. We will not quietly weaken the commitments above.
